In this week’s Podcast from Washington, Ian Goldstein speaks with Adriane Casalotti, NACCHO’s Chief of Government and Public Affairs. They discuss ways in which NACCHO is serving local health departments during the COVID-19 outbreak, as well as the new legislation championed by NACCHO and introduced by Reps. Jason Crow (D-CO) and Michael Burgess (R-TX): the Public Health Workforce Loan Repayment Program. They also discuss NACCHO’s contact tracing position paper.

Later in the program, Ian talks with Lynn Johnson, Assistant Secretary at HHS’ Administration for Children and Families (ACF), and Natalie Grant, Director of the Office of Human Services, Emergency Preparedness and Response. They discuss how local health departments that provide health services can work with ACF, and the importance of emergency preparedness and a coordinated national response to COVID-19.

Later in the program, Ian Goldstein talks with Dr. William Schluter, Director of the Global Immunization Division in the Center for Global Health at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Mr. Goldstein and Dr. Schluter discussed World Immunization Week (April 24 to 30) and the importance of immunization in improving the health and well-being of individuals worldwide. They also discussed the many gains that have been made in immunization globally and where challenges still exist.
