On this week's episode of Podcast from Washington, Ian Goldstein and Eli Briggs discuss the passage of the FY2019 Labor, Health & Human Services, and Education bill that was combined with the Department of Defense. They also discuss the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Advancing Innovations Act that passed the House and a deal on the opioid bills passed by the House and Senate. 

Later in the program, Ian Goldstein sat down with Health Director at Seattle & King County Patty Hayes to discuss her health department's response to the opioid epidemic. Hayes discussed how the health department has implemented syringe service programs to reduce infectious disease outbreak.

Later in the program, Ian Goldstein sat down with Assistant to the Secretary for Rural Development at USDA Anne Hazlett. They discussed the opioid epidemic and its effects on rural communities. They also discuss broadband development and how USDA plans to bring tools and resources to rural communities across the country.
