In this week’s episode of Podcast from Washington, NACCHO government affairs team members Ian Goldstein and Adriane Casalotti discuss the release of President Biden’s first full budget request to Congress. The two dive deeper into Congress’ reception to the budget request and new proposals for public health programs. They also discuss Senate confirmation hearings for President Biden’s nominees to Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) and Assistant Secretary at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

Later in the program, Ian Goldstein talks with Jonathan Hanft, Ryan White Program Coordinator for Hennepin County Public Health, MN, as well as Dr. Minesh Shah, Deputy Country Director of HIV and Tuberculosis (TB) Programs at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Ethiopia. They each discuss the impact COVID-19 has had on their HIV programs, as well as the challenges of HIV work during a pandemic.
