In this week’s special edition of the NACCHO Podcast Series, NACCHO staff members Ian Goldstein and Adele Appiah introduce a collaborative podcast between NACCHO and the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs (AMCHP) to discuss the PRISM Initiative. This episode brings together doulas and Substance Use and Mental Health professionals to discuss the use of doulas to support substance use disorder, recovery, and treatment. Guests for this episode include Amy Chen, senior staff attorney for the National Health Law Program’s Doula Medicaid Project; Joyce Miller and Melinda McMichael, Doula Certified Peer Recovery Specialists; and Jessica Stieger, AMCHP Program Manager of Infant Health.

In this week’s episode of Podcast from Washington, NACCHO government affairs team members Ian Goldstein and Eli Briggs discuss the passage of the American Rescue Plan Act and the investments it makes in the public health response to the COVID-19 Pandemic and beyond. They also discuss the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) investment announced this week to address COVID-19-related health disparities and health equity.
 
Later in the program, Ian talks with Tuberculosis Control Officer at Seattle & King County Public Health Dr. Masa Narita as well as Country Director with the CDC Division of Global HIV/AIDS in Zambia Dr. Simon Agolory. Both guests discuss World TB day and how the COVID-19 pandemic has severely impacted TB prevention and control efforts both globally and domestically.

On this week’s episode of Podcast from Washington, NACCHO government affairs team members Ian Goldstein and Eli Briggs discuss the latest $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief bill currently in the Senate and the testimony of NACCHO President Jennifer Kertanis in last week’s House Appropriations Labor, Health and Human Services (LHHS) Subcommittee hearing.  

 

Later in the program, Ian talks with Adriane Casalotti, NACCHO Chief of Government and Public Affairs, about NACCHO’s first virtual Capitol Hill Week, in which 90 NACCHO members had over 125 meetings with their elected representatives and senators via Zoom and telephone. Adriane and Ian discuss the importance of Capitol Hill Week, as well as the need for sustained advocacy for public health priorities throughout the year.
